Dear Parents/Guardians of 5th and 6th grade students:
I would like to introduce myself to you and welcome you to York Middle School for the 2015-16 school year. I will be serving as the 5th/6th grade Wellness teacher for your child this year. As we start (5th grade) or continue (6th grade) your child’s Middle School career, my goal is to provide an educational and enjoyable experience in their Wellness class this year.
For the returning 6th grade students, they will be following a similar schedule as they did last year during their 5th grade year. Each team will alternate between one week of Wellness classes with myself and one week with Mrs. Frank for their Music classes during the first two quarters of the school year. While in Wellness class, students will be receiving instruction in areas of overall wellness with a concentration on topics relating to fitness, nutrition, exercise and health. My focus will be on aspects of health and wellness that can impact them for the rest of their lives and challenge students to think about the importance of overall wellness and their world.
Students in grade 6 will need to have a gym bag with the following items for class: * Change of clothes (t-shirt, shorts, sweats, etc.) * Sneakers * Soap * Towel (or towelette) * Deodorant * Pen/Pencil * Pocket folder
Beginning 5th grade students will follow a similar schedule as the 6th graders will alternating between Wellness and Music on a weekly basis. One team will have Wellness for one week and then Music for the next continuing that pattern from the start of term 3 until the end of the school year. During their time in Wellness the main focus points will be on fitness, nutrition, exercise and health similar to the 6th graders.
Students in grade 5 need only to have sneakers & comfortable clothes for class along with a pen or pencil and a pocket folder.
If you have any questions about Wellness class, I can be contacted in the following places… ext. 3232 at York Middle School or at firstname.lastname@example.org. I look forward to spending part of the year with your children and getting to know them through our experiences.
